Gokyo Lake trek is the wonderful adventure trip to the holy Gokyo lakes in the Everest region. It is less crowded and alternative trek for standard Everest base camp but famous trekking trail.
The major highlight of this trekking is the amazing turquoise lake at an altitude around 5000m. The lake is holy to Hindus and Buddhist and many sacred trekkers trek this lake in the month of August on the occasion of Janai Purnima festival.
The trek begins with short Himalayan flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. You will trek from Lukla to Namche Bazaar, the gateway and capital of Khumbu. From Namche, you will take the trekking route other than busy Base Camp route. The route goes through the villages of Dole, Machhermo.
The trail is adventurous with rocky, icy landscape with amazing views of Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu and Everest which are eight thousander mountains. Ngozumpa glacier is another attraction of this trek to gokyo.
From Gokyo lake, some of the trekkers continue their adventure of high altitude trip crossing High Passes of Cho la and Renjo La. But you need enough high altitude experience and good physical health for high altitude walk. Instead, you will trek back to Lukla from the previous route.
