Located at the height of 4,620m (15,157ft), Khayer Lake is regarded as ethereally beautiful lake in Annapurna region. Khayer Lake is recently discovered trail in Annapurna region nestled between classical Annapurna Base Camp and Jomsom trail. This newly promoted trail offers unique blend of ethnic Gurung and Magar community and exceptional view of snow-clad mountain including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Nilgiri. Majority of trekkers visits for all the beauty it offers but some visits for some days out of the main track to off queit route. Very few travelers know about this trek so this trail is one of highly pristine and off beaten track in Annapurna region. Accommodations are usually in village community and sometimes in people’s home. Eating is often in communal basis so there’s real time for interaction with locals. We visit cheese making project, explore Yak farming project and hike to the highest point of the trek at Khayer Lake (4,620m) engulfed with shrine, nature grandeur and soaring Annapurna range right at front.

As we ascend higher through the rhododendron woodland, the view of Annapurna, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre (fish tail) goes magical. We leave the settlements behind and wander through forest till we reach above the tree line at Khopra ridge. The view of Annapurna massif and Khayer lake Khorpa ridge is magnificent. You can also experience the famous Khun Khane (Yak blood drinking) festival which is really popular. After the exploration of Kahayer Lake, the trail treks back to Pokhara via Ghorepani, Tadapani and Ghandruk, the colorful and vivid village of Annapurna region.  The best season for Khayer Lake trek is during September to December and March to May.

Clients Reviews

Best trek ever in Khayer lake trek

My Son and I have just returned from a superb trek to the Khayer lake trek region of Annapurna, customized for us by the High Pass Adventure team. This is the second time I’ve trekked now with High Pass Adventure and as with previous experiences everything was handled meticulously and flawlessly. The owner is always wonderfully responsive and flexible, answering my many questions and able to adjust to my changes of mind on trek destinations without any problems at all. Guide handles everything from local accommodation, transfers, flights and permits, and changes of itinerary on the fly. We were treated to the guiding services of Purna Karki and our Porter Keshab [check spelling]. The trek from Pokhara over Ghorepani and Poon Hill and up the khopra Dada was breathtaking and the views spectacular. I can’t praise Purna enough for his contribution to our enjoyment of the trek. His ready smile and sense of fun combined with a wealth of knowledge and attentive handling of all our needs really made the trek for us. Nothing was too much trouble for Purna, handling all dealings with tea-houses, transport and flight adjustments on trek. We enjoyed many an evening laughing, playing cards, and sharing stories, and feel we ended the trek as friends. I hope to continue this friendship when, as I’m sure I will, return again to Nepal. In short I highly recommend High Pass adventure and his team especially Guide and porter for your next trekking adventure.
