Developed by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (RPAP), the “Tamang Heritage Trail” is recently discovered tourism product in Nepal which highlights the ancient Tamang culture and heritage settling nearby Tibetan plateau along with spectacular scenery and healing bath in natural hot spring. People living in this region are originally from Tibet who migrated across the border long ago. Tamang Heritage Trail comprises off-beaten trail and allows you to venture deep into the Tamang hinterland.
Tamang Heritage Trail is possible to conduct in two ways: either on its own or in combination with other trails. Most of trekkers combines Tamang Heritage trek with other trail like Langtang valley trek and Gosaikunda trekking. This spectacular trek starts from Syabrubesi and follows the route of Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman and Briddim. Set high on hillside, Gatlang is a picturesque Tamang settlement. Tamang Buddhist Monastery and Parvatikunda Lake are the major attraction of Gatlang. Soothing at natural hot spring at Tatopai-Gatlang trail is exhilarating experience. Thuman is familiar for Shamanic performance and Briddim offers riveting cultural experience along with delightful overnight at community run home-stay. Moreover, travelers get opportunity to pay homage at Dukchu Gomba monastery which once was worshiped by Rinpoche and Chukla Khnaga Gomba.
Tamangs are well-known as horse trader and considered as one of oldest tribe in Nepal. The dominating view of soaring peaks like Manaslu, Ganesh, Langtang Liring and Jugal Himal fascinates the trail. The difficulty of Tamang Heritage Trail is bit of an odd-ball. The distance between the villages are at well-suited distance that takes around four hours. Tamang Heritage Trek is ideal for those seeking a closer look at Himalayan life that is less developed and explored.
