Located in between Tibetan Plateau and the Dhaulagiri ranges, Upper Dolpa is an alpine culturally Tibetan region of Dolpa district in western Nepal. Upper Dolpo Trek offers true adventure on remote and rugged terrain simply beyond the Himalayan valleys across western Nepal. This region protects one of the last relics of traditional Tibetan culture where Bon-Po religion (pre-Buddhist religion) is still in practice. The trekking to Upper Dolpo begins at the north-west section behind Dhaulagiri massif towards Tibetan plateau.

Upper Dolpo lies in the “rain shadow” area of Dhaulagiri massif and remains arid in monsoon season. So, it is perfect destination for trekking in rainy season. Until 1989, Upper Dolpo was restricted for trekking therefore it remained pristine, unspoiled and somewhat mysterious. Nature and geography resembles to those of Tibetan plateau. The shimmering Phoksundo Lake, the Tsering monastery, dramatic Baga La Pass and Num La pass are major highlights of Upper Dolpo Trek. Moreover, the beauty of Upper Dolpo has been mentioned by David Snelgrove in “Himalayan Pilgrimage” and recently by Peter Matthiessen in “The Snow Leopard” and by George Schaller in “Stones of Silence”.
